The Hardware Information Window displays a variety of information about your computer. The following information is displayed for any computer running System 6.05 or later. Some items may not appear if you are running an earlier version of the System.
The title of this window will change to reflect the current display. The three possibilities are Hardware Information, Graphics Information, and Version Information.
There are three sections to the System Information display, each of which can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate icon. One piece of information is the same on each screen: the User Name.
The first icon is the Hardware icon. It is selected when the window is opened. The information presented in addition to the User Name is:
• Computer: The model of the computer on which the test is being run.
• CPU: The processor in use.
• FPU: The Floating Point Unit type, if one is present.
• MMU Type: The Memory Management Unit type, if one is present.
• Physical RAM: How much RAM is installed.
• Logical RAM: How much RAM is accessible (may include Virtual Memory).
• ROM Version: The version number of the ROMs.
• ROM Size: The size of the ROMs in Kilobytes.
The second icon is the Graphics icon. When it is selected, the information presented in addition to the User Name is:
• QuickDraw Version: The version of QuickDraw in use.
• Color Depth: The bit depth of the active display.
• Screen Size: The size in pixels of the active display.
• Horizontal Resolution: The Dots Per Inch of the screen horizontally.
• Vertical Resolution: The Dots Per Inch of the screen vertically.
The third icon is the Version icon. When it is selected, the information presented in addition to the User Name is:
• System Version
• Finder Version
• MultiFinder Version (If not System 7)
• AppleTalk Version
• LaserWriter Version
• Laser Prep Version
• ImageWriter Version
For all of these except AppleTalk, the version is drawn from the file in the System Folder. Thus, the presence of the version in this window does not necessarily indicate that the file in question is installed or in use.
